The Academy of Danse Libre Auditions

Mon, Nov 12, 8:15pm
Cubberley Community Center, Palo Alto

Dancers Wanted! Join Danse Libre for their annual auditions. You’ll get to learn some challenging choreography from their repertoire and dance with many of their dancers, so bring your dancing shoes and be there a bit early to sign in and warm up.

About The Company
Danse Libre brings history to life, by choreographing and performing dances of the Regency Era (1811 – 1820)Victorian era (1840s-1850s), Ragtime (1910s), the 1920s, 1930s, 1940’s, and occasionally other periods as well. They aspire to create a vivid picture of the mayhem and joyful passion of the lively dance halls of days gone by. Distributed among their current membership is a wealth of experience in both period costuming and a wide variety of social dance forms. They rehearse period dances every Monday evening in Palo Alto. The company performs for festivals, concerts, organizations and charity events throughout the Bay Area.

The repertoire is large (and growing), and the membership is small. Danse Libre is dependent on a strong commitment to attending weekly rehearsals in order to maintain and expand their repertoire—dancers commit to a full dance season from November 2018 to June 2019. Rehearsals run from 8pm to 10:30pm every Monday in Palo Alto. Each dancer is responsible for their own costuming, in addition to a yearly membership fee that helps cover the costs of rehearsal space.

How to Audition
Come to the Cubberley Community Center dance studio on Mon, Nov 12, 8:15pm. You will need to fill out an audition form, and then the company will teach you some of the dances, and give you a chance to dance with current and former members of the group. Selected individuals will be asked back for the second round of auditions in the following weeks. There you’ll complete the choreographies and give you a chance to perform.
