For 11 years, the annual Dancers Choice Award was been awarded to an individual or organization working in the Bay Area dance community that are finding creative solutions that impact dance—behind the scenes, in the classroom, or on the stage.
Carla Service has been working in the dance field for over 30 years. She has worked in locations nationally and internationally including Cambodia, Japan, and Costa Rica, and more. After working for a decade in the Los Angeles entertainment industry, she brought her years of industry experience to Oakland.
Locally and abroad, Carla Service provides entertainment consultation for cruise ships, resorts, and entrepreneurs. Her clients have gone on to open up dance studios, perform in their dream location and work with the industry’s top stars.
Carla Service is the founder of the Oakland Dance Festival, a free event held in Jack London Square. The festival brings dance artists from all over the Bay Area, representing many different cultures.
