1918 is a response to the devastating influenza pandemic that swept the globe but had its worst effects in the then New Zealand colony of Western Samoa, claiming the lives of almost a third of the total population. It became a catalyst for Samoa's resistance against the New Zealand colonial government, which eventually led to her independence. 2018 marks the 100-year anniversary since that tragic and pivotal moment in Samoa’s history.
