Come and immerse yourself in Persian dance and music! This 12-hour workshop, hosted by Ballet Afsaneh, will be taught by Natalie Nayun (dance) and Fedros Ghadiri (music).
This workshop will include a 2-hour musical lecture about different aspects of Persian music, history, styles and how this is integral to the dance. The dance portion of this workshop includes 4 hours of intensive technique breakdown and 6-hours working with live Santur and Tombak musicians so dancers can learn how to recognize and interpret different kinds of Dastgah’s (Persian musical modes), learn about musical structure, practice improvising to live music, and learn how to work with musicians.
There will be an optional performance on Sunday night where dancers can choose to improvise to live music or present a choreographed piece to recorded music. Performing is not required!
All levels welcome!
