The Artivist-in-Residence (AIR) is a grant program for a nonprofit arts organization to hire teaching artists to design and implement socially responsive art and creative learning experiences as a means to heal and build community. In addition to receiving part-time, hourly employment, teaching artists further their artistic practice and professional development in a three-year cohort. This program is open to all art genres and age groups.

AIR is the evolution of the WritersCorps Teaching Artist-in-Residence program that advanced youth literacy and teaching artists’ expertise. By naming the teaching artist cohort Artivists, SFAC strives to cultivate a healing and social justice-based approach that reflects and empowers BIPOC communities, LGBTQ+ individuals and vulnerable populations.
