Non-binary filmmaker seeking trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming dancers and performers of all kinds for a Stanford MFA thesis short film.

The film responds to the absence of documented trans history, in particular the lack of archive surrounding the Compton’s Cafeteria Riot, the first known uprising of trans people against police violence in the US. The project will consist of a docufiction collaboration between trans artists in which we imagine the archive in an interpretative way to embody our history and engage with ideas of collective action, power, and resistance in the present and future.

Shooting will take place in San Francisco in early 2022 for a total of around 3 – 6 days. I can offer a stipend (currently $300 based on received grants, but I am hoping to increase this based on further grant application results) as well an equal share of any profit the film were to make at festivals or if picked up by online outlets.
