Mettler Studios’ January Dance Teacher Training provides an online immersion experience of individual and group dance improvisation, directed exercises to awaken kinesthetic feeling, discussion of dance principles, and how workshop material and methods can be applied for people of all ages and levels according to the needs of workshop participants. No previous experience is required. Follow-up mentoring is available. Themes for study include: the kinesthetic sense as a guide for discovering movement forms; the body as instrument of dance; force, time, and space and their connections to drama, music, and visual arts; organic form–where movements and themes evolve naturally one from another; the unity of sound and movement; dance and the environment; and building group dance improvisation skills. The work is based on principles developed by somatic dance pioneer Barbara Mettler (1907—2002) and is supported with funding from Mettler Studios, Inc.
