Mariana Sobral will be teaching a class introducing “Dreamers”, her new project for eMotion Arts, which explores the concepts and intersections of identity and immigration, delving deeper into how an individual’s identity is impacted by the journey of immigration from a mental health perspective. This class will consist of a ballet-based warm-up followed by sections of the new work, which will be premiered in full at the end of 2023.
This is a great opportunity to experience Mariana’s choreographic process and artistic style, which has been described as “ethereal movement with a strong ballet influence” and “musical and moving”. She aims to blend classical and contemporary techniques to create dance that evokes an emotional connection with the audience. Beautifully aesthetic group work is a signature of her choreographic style. To achieve this, she leans into her teaching background, guiding the dancers to find their own unique voice so that they can intimately connect with the creative process. Utilizing text prompts that will guide the choreographic and musical score, this class will be a collaborative experience where participants can ask questions about the process and bring their artistic vision.
