Step into the vibrant world of Ballet Folklorico and experience the rich cultural heritage of Mexico with Rogelio Lopez! This class will focus on the zapateado technique- a lively and percussive footwork technique commonly used in traditional dances, especially in Spanish, Mexican, and Latin American folkloric styles. Zapateado involves creating rhythmic sounds by striking the floor with the heels, toes, and the ball of the foot. In this class, we will strengthen the three parts of our foot (the point, metatarsals, and heels) to create the intricate sounds of zapateado. Open to dancers of all levels, this class offers a unique opportunity to enhance your zapateado technique.
In order to fully participate in this class, it is suggested that you come equipped with folklorico shoes. If these are not available to you, please bring shoes with a thick heel, or even boots. It is recommended that you wear comfortable clothing as we will be engaging in some stretching exercise prior to class.
