We also take this opportunity to build upon the many educational lessons we learned this past semester from the Black Lives Matter Movement, Prelude NorCal’s “Can the Front Half Sit Down?”, and BDC: Building Our Bridges. Among many important lessons, we have come to understand that we as a community have failed to acknowledge the cultures from which our dance forms come from. Thus, this showcase, as well as future BDC Showcases, will not only display the various dance forms we partake in, but also begin to educate on the history, culture, and inspirations behind the dances we do.

Lastly, we will also be collecting donations throughout the night for two organizations: Hip Hop 4 Change and the Lyric Performing Arts Academy. Our two guest speakers, Marlon Richardson and Taiwo Kujichagulia-Seitu, from the “BDC: Building Our Bridges” represent these organizations, respectively, and we would like to give back to them and the work that their organizations do for the community.
