Cunamacue: Huellas | Afro-Peruvian Dance Theater Performance
June 3 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
$25An Afro-Peruvian male/female couple drumming together on a darkened stage, both smiling at each other. There are other musicians in the background on mic stands in front of them.
Huellas (Footprints) is an Afro-Peruvian dance, music and theater performance inspired by the ancestral dance Son de los Diablos. The company will share its story of decolonization and resistance and other Afro-Peruvian rhythms in support of connecting to ancestral memory including the Festejo, Zapateo, and Landó.
Huellas centers around Afro-Peruvian rhythms and dances to bring visibility to the African Diaspora in Latinx communities. The project highlights the importance, history, existence, and cultural contributions of people of African ancestry in Peru as a way to reclaim and remember a history that is often invisibilized.
Co-created and performed by Carmen Roman and Pierr Padilla Vasquez
Musicians: Holly Shogbesan, Kyla Danysh, Randella Jones.
