Dance Brigade’s Hemorrhage: An Ablution of HOPE

October 10, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free
Dance Brigade presents Hemorrhage: An Ablution of Hope (and other invited guests!)
Live and in-person at 22nd and Bartlett Streets in SF
Presented as part of Dance Mission’s HOME series
Dance Brigade presents an excerpt of their 2014 hit, Hemorrhage, a work that examines the intersection of “new SF ” and world politics, and the connection between global warming, war, racism and the continued attack on the rights of women, while also remembering that even at a time when grief sits heavy in the lungs — from ventilators, to smoke inhalation, to cops on necks — there is hope. Dance Brigade is known for its use of drumming, text, explosive modern dance, and content-driven art.
Please note that if you want to see the 30 minute piece in the flesh, masks must be worn and physical distancing practices must be followed.
The corner of 22nd and Bartlett, the site of this outdoor performance, is where 2588 Mission Street once stood, but now there is nothing but an empty lot. It is the site of the 2015 arson fire that took one life and displaced some 60 residents, the majority of whom were low income Latinx immigrants, as well as several local businesses that served the neighborhood. The lot has stood empty for 5 years as the community and the landlord are fighting over what will be built in its place. Will it be more luxury condos or 100% affordable housing?
Hemorrhage: An ablution of HOPE is presented as part of Dance Mission’s HOME series and funded in part by the California Arts Council.
