Kanha School of Dance: Amugdha Malyada – The One Who Offered a Worn Garland

Amugdha Malyada’ in Sanskrit means ‘one who offered a worn garland’. The show is based on the story of Andal who was an 8th century poet-saint who was later given the status of a Goddess. Andal who was a little girl of 8 was steeped in Bhakti towards Lord Krishna and wished to marry him. A series of events that include a worn garland lead up to the magical union of Andal with Krishna. Amugdha Malyada brings to life this magical love story of Andal which is told through literature and poetry written by her. The story is narrated entirely using a movement vocabulary that is at least 2500 years old. The show boasts numerous collaborations with top-notch talent from the Bay Area, be it music, dance, photography or lighting.
