SUMMARY:On the Floor
DESCRIPTION:On the Floor \nby Théophylle Dcx and Maria Silk \nNovember 6 and 7\, 8 pm at Joe Goode Annex\n\nOn the Floor marks the first collaboration between Théophylle Dcx and Maria Silk. In this duet\, these two friends attempt to piece together traces of 70s and 80s queer San Francisco. Exploring the legacies carried by dance music genres of the late 70s and 80s (especially disco and hi-NRG) in relation to the early days of the HIV/AIDS crisis\, Dcx and Silk push themselves into altered states induced by dance\, moving through an inner space of hedonism\, exhaustion\, escape\, and discipline.\nShare:

SUMMARY:The Madness of Lady Bright
DESCRIPTION:The Madness of Lady Bright is a play about Leslie Bright\, an aging Drag Queen living alone in a NYC rooming house. Over the course of one evening\, a series of encounters force him to confront loneliness\, isolation\, and the fear of growing old. Blending humor with heartbreak\, the play explores the universal need for companionship and human connection while reflecting the social marginalization experienced by gay men in 1960s America. \nDrawing on Leslie’s fascination with Giselle\, Mannakin Theater & Dance weaves choreography into the production for fresh experience with this modern classic. \nShare:

SUMMARY:Abhinaya Dance Company's premiere of Kolam: At the Threshold
DESCRIPTION:Abhinaya Dance Company\, an Indian classical dance company founded by Artistic Director Mythili Kumar announces the premiere of Kolam: At the Threshold choreographed by Abhinaya Principal Artist and Choreographer Rasika Kumar. This new work is a full-length 80-minute Bharatanatyam dance piece that explores ritual\, inheritance\, and cultural memory through the South Indian practice of kolam—daily rice-flour drawings made at the threshold of the home. The piece integrates Bharatanatyam movement\, Carnatic music\, spoken text\, and spatial design inspired by kolam’s geometric structures. \n\nShare:

SUMMARY:Robert Shields - My Life as a Robot: 2026 SF Dance Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Robert Shields: My Life as a Robot celebrates the extraordinary\, and often invisible\, impact one artist can have on the world. In the 1970s\, Robert Shields began performing his signature robot routine outside the Hollywood Wax Museum before later moving to street performances in SF’s Union Square. Within a few short years\, he and his wife\, Lorene Yarnell\, were headlining their own hit CBS variety series\, The Shields & Yarnell Show. What Robert didn’t fully realize at the time was that his robot would go on to influence the DNA of popping\, locking\, and hip-hop dance as we know it today. \nShare:

SUMMARY:Dance Heals: 2026 SF Dance Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:As part of the ongoing Raising Voices series\, Dance Heals gathers eight films that meet some of life’s hardest realities and answer them with movement. Co-curated by laura elaine ellis and followed by a panel discussion\, the screening is presented alongside a concurrent exhibition by Los Angeles-based artist Sandow Birk\, whose work confronting history\, justice\, and war offers a compelling companion lens for these stories. A live performance by dazaun.dance\, featuring Dazaun Soleyn\, Jordon E. Dabney\, and Claire Fisher-Mendez in their work may we heal? will precede the films.\n\n\n\nShare:
