SUMMARY:On the Floor
DESCRIPTION:On the Floor \nby Théophylle Dcx and Maria Silk \nNovember 6 and 7\, 8 pm at Joe Goode Annex\n\nOn the Floor marks the first collaboration between Théophylle Dcx and Maria Silk. In this duet\, these two friends attempt to piece together traces of 70s and 80s queer San Francisco. SUMMARY:Robert Shields - My Life as a Robot: 2026 SF Dance Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Robert Shields: My Life as a Robot celebrates the extraordinary\, and often invisible\, impact one artist can have on the world. In the 1970s\, Robert Shields began performing his signature robot routine outside the Hollywood Wax Museum before later moving to street performances in SF’s Union Square. Within a few short years\, he and his wife\, Lorene Yarnell\, were headlining their own hit CBS variety series\, The Shields & Yarnell Show. What Robert didn’t fully realize at the time was that his robot would go on to influence the DNA of popping\, locking\, and hip-hop dance as we know it today. \nShare:

SUMMARY:Body Language - Screendance Shorts: 2026 SF Dance Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Body Language: Screendance Shorts showcases a full slate of international screendance work\, spanning nine countries across four continents. From the shores of Lake Michigan to a South African weaving mill\, the program moves through ritual and reclamation\, isolation and connection\, labor and tenderness. Whether meditative or explosive\, each of these evocative short films explores what it means to be seen — by others\, by the self\, and by the camera itself. This is screendance at its most inventive: a program for anyone curious about what happens when the camera joins the choreography. \nShare:

SUMMARY:Barefoot Boy: 2026 SF Dance Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Barefoot Boy traces the extraordinary life of Bill Evans\, a trailblazing choreographer who transformed early adversity into a lifetime of dance innovation. \nBorn in 1940s Lehi\, Utah\, Bill found in dance an escape from isolation\, a form of self-expression\, and eventually\, a career. He danced his way from the U.S. Army to the Joffrey Ballet in New York City\, and back to Utah\, where he helped launch the influential Repertory Dance Theatre before founding his own company. \nNow 82\, Bill returns to Salt Lake City and the Repertory Dance Theatre for the performance of his life. \nShare:

DESCRIPTION:Abhinaya Dance Company\, an Indian classical dance company founded by Artistic Director Mythili Kumar announces the premiere of Kolam: At the Threshold choreographed by Abhinaya Principal Artist and Choreographer Rasika Kumar. This new work is a full-length 80-minute Bharatanatyam dance piece that explores ritual\, inheritance\, and cultural memory through the South Indian practice of kolam—daily rice-flour drawings made at the threshold of the home. The piece integrates Bharatanatyam movement\, Carnatic music\, spoken text\, and spatial design inspired by kolam’s geometric structures. \n\nShare:

SUMMARY:These Violent Delights: 2026 SF Dance Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:These Violent Delights reimagines “Romeo and Juliet” as a kaleidoscopic journey of queer belonging\, defiance\, and self-discovery. Juliet awakens in The Apothecary\, surrounded by the wreckage of a story already ended — daggers\, spilled poison\, Romeo’s body — before the film rewinds into a fevered hallucination that blurs memory and nightmare\, cinema and dance. \nProduced by the Scottish Ballet and directed by Oscar Sansom and Christopher Hampson\, the film reworks Shakespeare’s tragedy into bold\, unapologetically modern territory. \nShare:

SUMMARY:The Madness of Lady Bright
DESCRIPTION:The Madness of Lady Bright is a play about Leslie Bright\, an aging Drag Queen living alone in a NYC rooming house. Over the course of one evening\, a series of encounters force him to confront loneliness\, isolation\, and the fear of growing old. Blending humor with heartbreak\, the play explores the universal need for companionship and human connection while reflecting the social marginalization experienced by gay men in 1960s America. \nDrawing on Leslie’s fascination with Giselle\, Mannakin Theater & Dance weaves choreography into the production for fresh experience with this modern classic.

\nShare:
