POSTPONED – Marika Brussel’s House of Names

April 18, 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

$20 – $32

At this time, Marika Brussel has postponed this upcoming performance.

Following the success of her ballet about homelessness, From Shadows (ODC Theater, October 2017), Choreographer Marika Brussel announces the world premiere of her new work, House of Names: an evening-length contemporary ballet about issues of social justice including immigration, women in the #metoo era, and poverty.

House of Names will consist of four original pieces, all focusing on women in biblical and mythological stories: Lot’s Wife, Cassandra, La Llorona and, potentially, Lilith. Brussel will be exploring these stories with a contemporary eye: Lot’s Wife as a modern immigration story; Cassandra in the #metoo era, La Llorona as a woman living in poverty, facing terrible choices. Collaborating with composer Carla Lucero, Marika Brussel will delve deeply into these stories, making them new and relevant. A string trio will perform Lucero’s compositions during the shows. In addition, one of the four pieces will be choreographed by guest artist Amy Foley (Artistic Director of Bellwether Dance Project & former dancer with Robert Moses’ KIN).
