Since 1976, Eiko Otake has been a pioneering artist in New York’s downtown dance scene, creating visually stunning interdisciplinary performance work characterized by manipulation of time through slow action, elaborate dreamscapes, and immersive experience that she created, performed, and presented worldwide until 2014 with her longtime collaborator, Koma. Since then, Eiko has established a vital solo career that addresses political events, mourning, and community.

Image of Eiko center in the frame wearing a sand color dress, laying on her side looking like she is moving on top of damp streked sand next to very thick dark  sand which looks like water meeting the shore. Eiko’s right arm is elongated, her feet parrallel and slightly parted and her long black hair lightly fanning out underneath her right arm. Eiko’s gaze is down. She faces the dark sand.
