$1.99 – $14.99

Bringing live performance from the stage to the screen, San Francisco Dance Film Festival’s Spring Fling Festival pays tribute to all the dancers who were prevented from performing live for the past year. From May 14 – 23, enjoy on-demand access to four dynamic productions by some of the most influential choreographers working today in contemporary dance and ballet. The Festival will also include encore screenings of award-winning films from SFDFF’s 2020 Festival in five categories, ranging from Best Documentary to Best Music video.

Tickets for individual programs range from $1.99 to $14.99 and are on sale now: https://sfdancefilmfest.org/spring-fling-2021/

Program Overview:

Matthew Bourne’s The Red Shoes, captured live at London’s Sadler’s Wells theatre, leads the program. SFDFF is thrilled to offer an early screening of the classic tale before its wide release later this year. Please note that The Red Shoes is only available to audiences in Northern California.

John Neumeier’s Ghost Light, created and filmed in 2020 under the constraints of the pandemic, is a provocative work that explores the isolation and fantasies of empty stages.

A Swan Lake, Alexander Ekman’s radical interpretation of the classic work for Norwegian National Ballet, combines classical ballet, contemporary theater, and an onstage lake with 5,000 liters of water.

YAG: The Movie is an emotionally charged piece for six dancers about longing and the love of dance from the famed Batsheva Dance Company. A must-see for followers of Ohad Naharin’s visionary work.

Beyond My Steps, winner of Best Documentary Film at SFDFF 2020, is an intimate portrait of the Contemporary Dance Company of Angola, featuring rare archival footage from their 2017 season performances.

Our 2020 Award Winning Shorts program features four short dance films that address topics from climate change in the Arctic (Human Habitat) to the challenges of interracial relationships (The Conversation).
