SF International Arts Festival: 2020 Flamenco

October 25, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

$30

Theatre Flamenco of San Francisco, celebrating 54 years in 2020, will present a traditional Flamenco performance of three world premier choreographies by Artistic director/Flamenco Dancer Carola Zertuche accompanied by Roberto Aguilar Flamenco guitarist and Marlon Aldana Percussionist.

Founded in 1966, Theatre Flamenco was conceived during a flowering of cultural pride that led to the revival of Latino arts. The Company’s purpose was to fill what was then a dearth of Spanish dances in the Bay Area. Theatre Flamenco was the first American dance company to stage full productions of Spanish dance in the United Staes, and is one of the oldest dance companies in California.

Carola Zertuche (Artistic Director, Choreographer, Dancer)
Born in Torreon, Mexico, Zertuche has collaborated with international and local artists in productions paying homage to traditional styles of flamenco since assuming the artistic directorship of the company in 2008. She has toured Mexico, USA, South America, Canada, and the Middle East, dancing with various flamenco companies, and performed in New York’s Joyce Theater and Jacob’s Pillow in Massachusetts.

San Francisco International Arts Festival is an annual event, founded in 2003 to celebrate the arts by bringing together a global community of artists and presenting innovative projects focused on increasing human understanding.

The 2020 Festival Program features over 35 art groups from the US and 7 other countries and includes performances across 6 disciplines, including Music, Dance, Theater, Comedy, Theatre, Cirque, and Performance Art
