SFDFF 2025 | The Dancer, with post-screening Q&A
November 8 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
$20 – $40From a refugee camp in Damascus to the world’s most prestigious ballet stages, The Dancer (North American Premiere) traces the extraordinary journey of Ahmad Joudeh, a courageous artist who risked everything to move freely, both in body and spirit. Condemned for being gay, threatened by extremists for dancing, and abused by those closest to him, Ahmad is now an internationally recognized artist and the first certified ballet master from an Arabic background. Followed by a live post-screening Q&A with Ahmad Joudeh and director Lacey Uhlemeyer.
The image features a shirtless man with a beard, performing a spinning motion in a dance studio. His arms are extended outward, and he is wearing a long, flowing white skirt that fans out in a… circular motion around him, accentuating the spin. The background is subtly out of focus, with vertical window blinds allowing soft light to filter through. The dance studio has a neutral tone, and a ballet barre is visible against the wall.
