Studio 210 Presents: Summer 2020 Residents Evan Johnson and Bhumi B. Patel

The performance showcase invites virtual audiences to focus on the intersection of embodied sensation over stagnant forms, and explores how remote technology can forge creative ground within our climate of national crisis.

Evan Johnson/The Cosmic Elders Theatre Ensembles’ Voice Over Project inquires how to subvert traditional systems of power through innovative technological forms. Through various experiments of de-centering and de-constructing how the body and voice are experienced, the intergenerational group will navigate uncharted territories within the context of remote performance making.

Bhumi B. Patel’s pateldanceworks will present the long shadow , a reimagined virtual performance extending from our work divisions the empire has sow n. Patel and collaborators look at the questions of resistance and resilience, dominance and dissonance, and the shadows of colonization that we are all part of today.

To help support our Residency program and Studio 210, tickets are a suggested donation of $5-$50. Donate and register here to receive the URL to the event. We are also offering NOTAFLOF tickets. Email residency@deborahslater.org for a free URL to the event.

Audience participation is the final major component of this residency for the artists and we invite the audience to participate in a discussion following the performance portion of the evening. The artists will first ask questions of the audience and then the audience will have an opportunity to ask the artists and performers questions.
