World premiere of Through the Eyes of the Apsaras performed by Abhinaya Dance Company, with music composed by Prema Ramamoorthy, an acclaimed musician from India, choreography by Mythili Kumar & Rasika Kumar, and special lyrics written by Ravi Ranganathan.

Indian mythology describes the apsaras as beautiful maidens emerging from the Milky Ocean as it was being churned by the gods and asuras to obtain the nectar of immortality . The charming apsaras are destined to be the entertainers of the gods in the heavenly court of Indra. As they are compelled by Indra to do many actions against their will, they mirror the sufferings and plight of women the world over. This work attempts to view these episodes from the perspective of the apsaras – were their hearts made of stone that these actions had no lasting effect on them?
