BHARATANATYAM with KALANJALI – try a class!

April 26 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Free

Open house with beginners of various ages. Try out simple steps, and maybe a little dance? No pressure! The students are preparing for a performance in early June, along with the seniors of all levels. Open to the public. Kalanjali just celebrated 50 years of classes and performances in the United States. Founded in  1975 by the late Kalakshetra KP Kunhiraman and Katherine Kunhiraman who opened the very first San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival in 1978. Try some “mudras”, hand gesture language. Learn how Indians get to be so good at math! Geometry – of course!

Additional Information

Wear comfortable clothes for dancing - T-shirt and sweats are fine, not too naked. All Indian dance is done with bare feet. Hair tied back. Come and dance, or simply observe - your choice!

Location Tips

Toyon Room - facing St. Mary's Rd, lots of parking - About ten minutes from exit from 24. Great hiking for non-dancing partners.
