Love Everywhere kicked off in the Rotunda of San Francisco City Hall at noon on February 12, 2010. The 50+ dancers and community members performed on the grand staircases, balconies and main floor of City Hall. The following day, Love Everywhere was brought to downtown San Francisco as performers and community members engaged in a variety of site-specific performance happenings. Processing down Market Street from 9th to Powell Street, participants unexpectedly dashed into intersections, hugging each other for the duration of red lights, kissing each other for “7 minutes in Heaven” and getting strangers to pose for “prom” photos. Moving on to the Westfield Mall, the performers created wedding tableaus on the spiraling escalator, and playfully flirted in the food court with the employees, then proceeded to the central plaza where everyone slow danced for 15 minutes in silence. Traveling from Westfield Mall to Union Square, participants created reoccurring still scenes of passionate embraces in front of stores and along the sidewalk. The Saturday events wrapped up with unprompted serenades by the entire group to couples, single people, and families through Union Square. Love Everywhere culminated with two packed performances at Glide Memorial Church during the Valentine’s Day Celebrations.
