Etang Inyang & Tammy Johnson
Etang Inyang and Tammy Johnson are the Oakland-based bellydance duo, Raks Africa. Specializing in Egyptian style, the duet has studied and performed for over a decade, and has a successful record of producing award-winning work recognized by the Bellydancer of the Year Competition and the Black Choreographers Festival. Johnson and Inyang collectively have over 35 years of experience working with youth and communities of color. In addition to teaching classes at the Women’s Cancer Resource Center and Creative Growth Art Center, they also direct the Girls Raks Bellydance and Body Image Program, which provide proactive body positive tools through the art of bellydance.

Raks Africa’s Etang Inyang and Tammy Johnson are the recipient of the 2015 Dancers Choice Award and they will be acknowledged at a free public event on Friday, April 24 at 12noon during the kick off for Bay Area Dance Week. Join us to celebrate Etang and Tammy on this day in San Francisco’s Union Square Park. The annual Dancers Choice Award celebrates individuals and organizations that are creatively impacting dance. Etang and Tammy were selected from a stellar group of nominees—ranging from schools and performance spaces, to dance masters, to emerging and established artists and administrators, of which they were one of over 120 nominations that the dance community submitted.
