Access in Practice: Integrating Accessibility into Immersive Theater
May 19 @ 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm
$60 – $200Facilitated by Glamputee
This workshop explores performance craft with accessibility as a core artistic value, embedding access features from the start rather than treating them as an afterthought. Beyond basic compliance, we’ll examine how access can be an aesthetically exciting and artistically fulfilling element for both performers and audiences. Through hands-on exercises and discussion, we’ll workshop a variety of methods—both overt and subtle—to integrate accessibility into performance, whether on stage, in immersive environments, or nightlife spaces.
A disabled performer dressed in black, wearing dramatic makeup, kneels on the floor between two leather armchairs, their arms outstretched and head tilted back in an expressive pose. Their curly hair… cascades down, and their dark attire contrasts with the warm, intimate setting. Around them, four audience members are seated in the chairs, watching the performer with engaged expressions. The space
has a vintage aesthetic, with a patterned carpet, dark leather furniture, and soft candlelight illuminating the windowsill. The atmosphere suggests an immersive theater or intimate performance
setting, where the performer interacts closely with the seated audience.
