AXIS Dance Company and Dr. Catie Cuan: Kinematic/Kinesthetic
May 21 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
$16 – $68At the dawn of the 21st century, limits of movement and mobility extend with a new collaborator: robots.
Kinematic/Kinesthetic is a groundbreaking work by Axis Dance Company using technology to expand movement potential for disabled and non-disabled dancers. AXIS pushes boundaries through mobility devices including telescoping crutches and robotic legs developed by engineering students with artist Ben Levine.
Dr. Catie Cuan, choreographer, dancer, and roboticist, intertwines human creativity with mechanical precision, transforming artistic landscapes and influencing disability perspectives.
This image showcases a diverse dance ensemble performing against a minimalist white background. Six dancers create a dynamic composition with extended limbs and expressive poses. In the center is a… performer in a wheelchair wearing red pants, surrounded by five dancers in various positions—some standing, others in arabesque poses, and one kneeling. The group wears earth-toned costumes in rust, orange, brown, and red, featuring both flowing and form-fitting elements. All dancers are barefoot except for the wheelchair user. Together, they form a striking artistic arrangement demonstrating strength, grace, and inclusive artistry. Their collective pose creates visual flow across the frame, with bodies extending in different directions while maintaining a cohesive group formation.
