Body As Altar-Collective Gozadera
January 26 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
$10In this workshop, Primera Generación Dance Collective and participants will gather to embody principles of various Latine social dance forms to recall histories and futurities of resistance that dancing minoritarian bodies have cultivated to mobilize in dire times. In honoring these social dance aesthetics, we cultivate our bodies as altars, revering those who have taught us to resist.
This workshop is offered in conjunction with Co-Creating Desmadre as Futurity: Primera Generación Dance Collective’s NOStalgia POP, Jan. 24-26, 2025, presented by Bridge Live Arts.
The background scene shows a bright blue sky, green trees behind a blue metal storage space in a concrete lot. From left to right we see Irvin, jumping with his right hand above his head, arching his… back to the sky, with his left leg behind him. Next, we see Patty who is leaning on a white metal cart, with her right leg kicked up. Fonzy is jumping, facing towards the camera with his arms in a V
shape. Rosa is standing on a pile of wooden pieces, with her right leg and right arm kicked up to her side while her left arm is on the blue storage metal, supporting her body. Irvin wears a brown and
black cap, green mesh shirt, black jeans and black boots. Patty wears a red bandana on her neck, a purple and white skirt, white ankle length socks, and white sneakers. Fonzy wears a neon green tank
top, and black frilly skirt that flies up when he jumps. Rosa is wearing a white tank top with La Virgin de Guadalupe on the front, maroon pants, and white heeled boots.
