Borrowed Immersive Performance Experience – Oakland
Borrowed is a site-specific dance and immersive experience reflecting on the ties between environmental exploitation and the displacement of Black communities. A sequel to its Morongo Basin premiere, this version parallels climate crisis with the gentrification and erasure of Black San Franciscans. Two distinct versions feature overlapping choreography and themes. Through movement, sound, and dialogue, the work invites collective action. Tickets are sliding scale; ticket sales support equitable artist wages and documentation for future access. Dress for weather; chairs available.
Two dancers share a powerful, expressive moment during a duet on a dusty desert trail, surrounded by rugged hills and sparse vegetation like Joshua trees. One dancer, with short blond and black hair,… wears a tan and brown flowing outfit and lunges forward in a deep, grounded pose. The other dancer, with long dark hair tied back, wears a loose green tunic and brown pants, leaning in with their arm
entwined with the other's, creating a strong and intimate physical connection. Both wear long black gloves, emphasizing their stylized and emotive movement against the vast, sunlit landscape. Dancers
