Calculated Movements: Dances for Democracy and Against Injustice
May 10 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
$17.50 – $25Dance works by Karl Schaffer and MoveSpeakSpin dealing with issues roiling the American political landscape: battles over DEI, imprisonment of those who dissent, destruction of the environment, and war in Palestine and Israel. Special guest performance of Uniform Convergence, written and performed by Corrine Yap. Juxtaposing the stories of two women trying to find their place in a white, male-dominated academic world, this one-woman play connects the struggles of a 19th century Russian mathematician and a fictional Asian-American woman coping with the prejudice she faces in the present.
Three dancers with backs to audience each wearing off-white and tan clothing. The central dancer strikes outward with upraised arms and on either side a dancer is repelled and moves suddenly outward.
