We present “Outstation”, the Malaysian and Singaporean term for being away from home, with all the nostalgia and heartbreak that comes with it. As east & southeast artistes performing traditional arts outside their home countries, we’ll tackle what that means in practise. Are we simply an echo of art in the motherland, or do we, too, have something unique to bring to this country and our communities overseas? Our answer is yes: outstation doesn’t have to mean only tragedy or sacrifice to move us onwards. With courage, compassion and your support, “Outstation” can mean beauty too.
