Vertical dance company BANDALOOP presents Dances from Thin Air, a multi-media evening of vertical dance and film of the company’s recent mountain dances.

For one night only, BANDALOOP will light up the Great Wall of Oakland with its dynamic vertical dance. The award-winning short film SHIFT, shot at the Yosemite National Park and recent footage of the new work Coyote Waltzes, filmed as part of the National Park Service Centennial will frame the performance. Bringing wild space to urban place, Dances from Thin Air shares the mountain heart of BANDALOOP’s artistry.

AXIS Dance Company: Community Dance Jams

Cost: $12, slinding scale, no one is turned away due to lack of funds

This jam is open to the public, and creates an informal space in which dancers of all types and backgrounds are invited to explore their bodies in a kinesthetic relationship to others.

Jam will begin promptly at 6pm with a 30min instruction and introduction to the company’s physically integrated dance philosophies. Sourced in contact improvisation, the jam will cultivate mindful awareness and mutual exchange. This month’s jam will be facilitated by a new AXIS dancer Liv Schaffer.

To help make our events accessible to all people, please use fragrance free, non-toxic toiletries and cleaning products and other supplies, and avoid scented products whenever possible.
