The MFA in Dance proudly presents Discovery, the 2024 MFA in Dance thesis performances.
We are proud to present works by Nefertiti Altan, Carrie Wapole, Krista Langford, Imani Teague, Elena Rezai and Isabelle Armstrong.
Nefertiti’s work is a “humble offering of death and rebirth rites for the millions of indigenous people—especially Palestinians in this moment— killed in the name of genocide”
Carrie’s work ” will investigate the connection between emotional states, physical surroundings, and technological impact through embodied learning, somatic practice, improvisational and choreographed movement creations.”
Krista’s piece “explores the possibilities of multiple realities within one’s own embodied experience, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of self, the universe, and freedom.”
Imani’s work “is an autobiographical choreographic work that explores the path of healing and self discovery from experiences of childhood trauma and family displacement”
Elena’s piece “explores the role of dance and somatics in fostering kinesthetic empathy, and connection beyond words”
Isabelle’s piece “acknowledges the tradition of ballet while also challenging the more harmful, authoritarian components in order to create a more holistic and somatic style of ballet”
Performances on June 7th and 8th will be guided site specific performances.
At the end of the performance there will be an approximately 15-30 minute Q and A session with some of the choreographers.
