Cashion Cultural Legacy: Etnofonías – Los Sonidos de México
Etnofonías Concert announcement featuring Los Lupeños dancers in traditional costume.
Etnofonías is Los Lupeños de San José’s new folklórico concert, the creation of Artistic Director Samuel Cortez who has blended his dance works with those of guest resident artists from México. In his own words: “Etnofonías is a tribute to Mexican culture of past and present, connected by sounds that evoke our celebrations and our traditions. Although audiences might not have heard this music, it somehow sounds intimately familiar and nostalgic.”
Etnofonías features the debut of Alta California, a humble tribute to the traditions preserved by generations of Californians. Also on the program are a perspective on the live tradition of the fandango in the state of Veracruz, a set of intricate dances from the Apatzingán Valley in Michoacán, and the premiere of treasured choreographies created by Alfredo Luna (Veracruz) and Rafael Borbolla (Sinaloa). Accompanying Los Lupeños and Los Lupeños Juvenil are the talented musicians of Ensamble Folklórico de Veracruz.
