June 23, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Noorani Dance presents: Heartistry Video Series, Episode 3: Social Change through heARTivism (part 2)
Featuring: Farah Yasmeen Shaikh, Valarie Kaur, Annette Philip, Alicia Nascimento, Athena Nair, Aysha Upchurch, Brinda Guha & Nadhi Thekkek
In our last episode in April, we brought together a dynamic group of women of color dance artists – learning more about their work as artists, educators, choreographers – with each bringing a passion, compassion and commitment displayed through their art AND their activism. This beautiful and powerful combination is what we call heARTivism.
Staying in the same theme for this upcoming episode, we reunite all the artists and welcome two more phenomenal women to the conversation – Valarie Kaur – a seasoned civil rights activist, award-winning filmmaker, lawyer, and faith leader – and Annette Philip – a renowned musical artist, educator and arts entrepreneur. All of these heARTivists, will premiere a new collaborative dance work set to the words of Valarie from her book See No Stranger, music composed by Annette, and dance by Farah Yasmeen Shaikh, Alicia Nascimento, Athena Nair, Aysha Upchurch, Brinda Guha & Nadhi Thekkek.

What is Heartistry?
What is Heartistry?
In February 2020, we launched our podcast the Heartistry Talk Show, welcoming guests from around the globe that are bringing a passion, compassion and commitment to what they are doing, into a conversation with Farah Yasmeen Shaikh about how we are each finding an artistic flow with our heart leading the way.
Bringing these conversations to a video series, Noorani Dance will return to recorded live performances and at times, create anew, seeking to reimagine our work as artists during this new normal as a catalyst for collaboration, creativity, and conversation.
