Joe Landini Dance: Freddie Vs. Elvis
Four dancers dance in pairs
Freddie vs. Elvis are two abstract dances that use the music of Freddie Mercury (Queen) and Elvis Presley as backdrops to create a series of dances that are influenced by iconic imagery, pop culture and collective memory. In part one, Landini uses the isolated vocals of Freddie Mercury, to deconstruct Queen’s iconic songs into plotless ballets that are inspired by queer men during the AIDS pandemic. In part two, Elvis Presley karaoke songs (with live singers) become elaborate movement explorations that might or might not have something to do with Elvis’ music while channeling the Las Vegas glamor of the 1970’s.
