sjDANCEco: Spring Dance Festival

FreeCelebrating National Dance Week (April 15-24, 2022) – and a cornerstone Bay Area Dance Week event – the two-day festival is also the kickoff to sjDANCEco’s 19th Season, and celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Spring DanceFestival.
Calpulli Tonalehqueh of San Jose will be presenting the art of Ancient Aztec Dance to open the festival on Saturday at 11am. The opening ceremony is a ritual with drums which calls the four elements (wind, water, fire, earth) and the four cardinal directions, North (Tezcatlipoca), East (Quetzalcoatl), South (Huitzilopochtli), and West (Xipe Totec) along with the Great Cosmos, Mother Earth, and the Center – Our Hearts.
Many types of dance are presented during the festival including Modern, Jazz, Tradition Folk, Ballet, Hip Hop and many others.
Dance companies will represent San Jose, San Francisco, Fremont, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Los Altos, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Santa Cruz, Hollister, Boulder Creek, Ben Lomand, Livermore, Brentwood and beyond.
