San Francisco Dance Film Festival: The Vault: Bay Area Legends

June 6 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

The words

The words" The Vault: Bay Area Legends" appear through the middle of the image in orange text. Above the text is a monochrome image of six women in black dresses reaching arms outstretched in different directions. The text 2024 San Francisco Dance Film Festival appears in white text in the upper left-hand corner. Below the orange text are three smaller images. The image on the lower left features a white male in a denim mechanic's jump and a black and white trucker hat sitting in front of a fan with four dancers behind him. The lower middle image features two people looking in perpendicularly opposite directions in white longcoats, white swim caps and goggles worn over the caps. The lower right image feature six dancers in a pose along with the marble bust of a woman. The focus is a woman on the floor looking upward, resting her cheek to her fist.

San Francisco Dance Film Festival honors four Bay Area choreographers – Ellen Bromberg, Joe Goode, Margaret Jenkins, and Brenda Way – and the filmmakers with whom they created historic dance films for national public television in 1989 and 1991. Join us for a true “time capsule from the past” screening as we flashback to a time of Standard Definition, 4:3 screen formats, and 1” reel-to-reel videotape.

The Vault: Bay Area Legends pays tribute to the creators of these works with a theatrical, archival screening followed by a conversation with the four choreographers. Please join us as we raise a glass to our amazing local dance artists and filmmakers. They are still making history!

The films screened are used by permission of Twin Cities Public Television and KQED, Inc. Includes a 60 min. screening, Q&A, and reception.
