Genevieve Rochefort’s new work explores partnerwork and use of the gaze. Rochefort is a recent graduate from the Alonzo King LINES Ballet Training Program. Mel Mark examines games and play in “No one can play this game alone.” Mark is originally from New Jersey, earned her BFA in Dance from the Ohio State University, and has performed and taught in Denmark through C.L.E.M. Summer Art Dance Project. Presented by SAFEhouse’s Resident Artists Workshop.

Christina Carter explores the work and pleasure of activism in her new solo. Carter is a choreographer and improviser living in Oakland and holds an MFA from Mills College. Es “Delight” Co is directed by Esra Coskun and presents a new dance work examining loss. Coskun is a Lead Artist at SAFEhouse Arts. Connolly Strombeck, Ballet Master at San Francisco Academy of Ballet, is also presenting new work on this program. Presented by SAFEhouse’s Resident Artist Workshop.

Octavia Rose Hingle imagines the future when ocean tides have seized the land at the water’s edge and the Bay Area, as we know it, is underwater in their new performance work The Gills Beneath Our Flesh. SAFEhouse’s Resident Artist Workshop presents an evening of dance by ayanadancearts. ayanadancearts will perform two pieces from their repertory: ?? / Kijo (2013) and ? / Tane (2019). Its signature piece, ?? / Kijo ("demon-woman"), will be re-staged for the fourth time, now as a full-length work. In Japan, demons are believed to linger in the depths of women’s souls, bringing resentment, jealousy, and chaos. ?? / Kijo tells of the transformation of a once-calm female spirit into a demon-woman.
